Breast reconstruction after oncological treatment is a surgical procedure aimed at restoring the appearance of the breast after mastectomy (removal of the breast). This procedure significantly impacts not only the aesthetic appearance but also the psychological well-being of the patient. At Premier Clinic, we offer modern methods of breast reconstruction tailored to the individual needs of each patient, aiming to achieve the best possible aesthetic and functional outcome.
Breast reconstructions at our clinic are specialized by MUDr. Lucie Zárubová, who is one of the most sought-after doctors for breast reconstructions in the Czech Republic.
The date of the surgery is already 1 month from the consultation.
Why choose breast reconstruction?
After successfully overcoming breast cancer, many women face emotional challenges associated with the loss of a breast. Breast reconstruction can help restore not only the shape and volume of the breast but also the inner sense of wholeness and self-confidence. The choice of the most suitable method depends on the patient’s health status, the type of oncological treatment, and her aesthetic preferences.
Breast reconstruction at Premier Clinic
Breast reconstruction is preceded by a consultation with our doctors, during which it is necessary to bring documentation regarding the treatment of breast cancer. The plastic surgeon must assess whether the surgery is already possible and evaluate the initial condition. Then, they will select the reconstruction method and explain to the patient the options for the final result after the reconstruction is performed. Very often, after the first reconstructive phase, it is necessary to adjust the contralateral, healthy breast to match the size and shape of the reconstructed breast.
How does recovery proceed?
Breast reconstruction is a demanding surgical procedure, and the recovery time depends on the type of surgery, the extent of the procedure, and the patient’s health status. After the surgery, the patient will be monitored at the clinic for 1 day. After the surgery, it is necessary to take antibiotics for 1 week and wear compression garments for 6-8 weeks.
How to prevent complications?
Breast reconstruction is a complex surgical procedure, and although complications are rare, it is important to keep certain risks in mind. To minimize complications, choosing a qualified clinic and an experienced surgeon who selects the appropriate surgical technique is crucial.

Breast reconstruction can either take place simultaneously with the removal of breast tissue (immediate reconstruction) or after a few months to years following the completion of treatment (delayed reconstruction).
Depending on the individual condition of the patient and the type of oncological therapy, an appropriate method is chosen – either reconstruction using a breast implant or utilizing the patient’s own tissue (e.g., a flap from the abdomen or back). The procedure itself is performed under general anesthesia and lasts several hours.
After the surgery, hospitalization and a period of rest follow. The healing time depends on the chosen method and the overall health status of the patient. Often, reconstruction is divided into multiple phases – including adjustments to the symmetry of the breasts, areolas, and nipples.

Before the procedure
Before breast reconstruction, a consultation with a plastic surgeon and an oncologist is necessary to assess the overall health status of the patient, the completion of oncological treatment, and the suitability of the procedure. The time interval from radiotherapy or chemotherapy is important if reconstruction was not performed immediately.
The patient should be in good physical and mental condition, without acute health issues. Several days before the procedure, it is necessary to limit or discontinue medications that increase bleeding and to follow the doctor’s instructions. It is also advisable to prepare the home environment for recovery before the operation.
After the procedure, hospitalization is necessary. Swelling, bruising, or temporary loss of sensitivity may occur in the area of the operation. It is important to wear elastic or compression garments as directed by the doctor and to adhere to a rest regimen.
The return to normal activities is individual, usually within a few weeks, depending on the extent of the procedure and healing. Reconstruction is often multi-phase – including adjustments to the shape of the breasts, nipples, and symmetry of the other breast.
The doctor will set the dates for follow-up appointments and may suggest further steps within the reconstruction plan.
