Since as far back as 1960, there has been debate about a possible link between breast implants and various illnesses they might cause. Although studies appear from time to time that either confirm or refute the presence of these symptoms, a clear answer is still lacking and the question remains open.
The term ‘breast implant illness’ is used to describe the set of symptoms experienced by women with silicone breast implants who believe these symptoms are caused by the implants themselves. Recently, due to the increase in the number of patients and discussions on social media, this issue has been the subject of growing debate.
