We can perform surgery for inverted nipples in a number of ways, depending on your future plans regarding breastfeeding.

• Initial consultation and diagnosis – The plastic surgeon will assess the type and degree of nipple inversion, carry out an ultrasound scan of the breast to rule out cancer, and determine the optimal surgical technique.
• Choice of surgical method – We will discuss two options: a technique involving the severing of the milk ducts (simpler, but affects breastfeeding) or one without severing (more complex, but preserves functionality).
• Preparation for the procedure – Before the procedure itself, we administer local anaesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout the process. In the case of general anaesthesia for more complex cases, a one-day hospital stay is required.
• Technique involving severing the milk ducts – This involves the surgical release of shortened fibrous bands causing the nipple to be pulled inwards. This is followed by pulling the tissue outwards and securing it with special surgical pins.
• Technique preserving the milk ducts – This involves cutting and reshaping the retracted internal tissues into the shape of a nipple, or releasing the tissue around the areola and suturing it into the desired shape.
• Fixation and completion – The nipples are fixed in place with a silicone drain or surgical pins for 14 days to ensure they take the correct shape. The procedure takes 20–30 minutes.
• Discharge – The patient may go home immediately with aftercare instructions and return to work the very next day.

Thanks to the minimally invasive nature of the procedure, the subsequent recovery is quick and comfortable.

• The first few days after the operation – The procedure is generally well tolerated by patients, but it is recommended to avoid physical exertion, including sport, for 2 weeks, and to avoid bathing in the bath or swimming pool until the wound has fully healed.
• Wound care – Regular dressing changes and daily replacement of sterile gauze, along with disinfecting the surgical site as instructed by the surgeon, are essential for optimal healing.
• Nipple fixation – You should expect to wear surgical pins or a silicone drain for 14 days to maintain the correct shape and position of the nipples.
• Gradual resolution of symptoms – Discomfort such as numbness of the nipples, swelling or bruising usually subsides within a week or two.
• Follow-up appointments – Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor healing and to remove the stitches or fixation devices after 14 days.
• Return to activities – Work that does not involve physical exertion is possible the following day; full physical activity after 2 weeks. The result is immediately visible and permanent.

If you experience pain, it is recommended that you take standard painkillers as required.

The cost of surgery for inverted nipples depends on the complexity of the case and the surgical technique chosen.
