In women, fat tends to accumulate mainly in the lower back, above the waist, whilst in men it accumulates above the hips. This is often down to genetic predisposition, which exercise alone cannot overcome.

About the procedure

An effective and highly sought-after invasive plastic surgery technique for removing excess fat from specific areas, specifically the hips, is gentle liposuction, which shapes and refines the figure by injecting a tumescent solution and suctioning out subcutaneous fat tissue.

Fat accumulation in problematic areas is often due to a person’s genetic makeup, but is frequently caused by a stressful lifestyle as well.

A simple and less invasive solution for the body is liposuction of the hips under local anaesthesia, always using a tumescent solution.

There are several liposuction techniques to choose from, ranging from classic tumescent liposuction to Swiss vibration liposuction or German laser liposuction of the hips – to achieve the greatest possible effect and break down fat cells without damaging the surrounding tissue or the vascular system.

When can liposuction on the hips help?

It should be noted that liposuction of the hips does not address excess weight; it merely helps to remove fat from areas where it accumulates in excess and where exercise or diet alone are ineffective – in other words, it reshapes the figure.

In women, fat tends to accumulate excessively mainly in the lower back, above and around the waist, whilst in men it accumulates in the area above the hips.

The cost of hip liposuction

The final price of hip liposuction depends on the extent of the treatment and the method chosen. We will determine the exact price during a no-obligation consultation; alternatively, you can also take a look at our general price list for plastic surgery.

How will the procedure take place?

Liposuction of the hips is carried out under local anaesthetic and takes just under 2 hours, depending on the size of the area being treated. First, we inject the treatment area with a special tumescent solution containing an anaesthetic and adrenaline to minimise bleeding.

We then remove the excess fat using special thin cannulas connected to a suction device. With the laser method, we also use laser beams to break down fat cells in a targeted manner before suction, which reduces swelling and bruising.

The anaesthetic lasts for almost 20 hours and no stitches are required. After the procedure, we fit you with elastic compression garments and discharge you to continue your recovery at home.

Recovery after the procedure

Liposuction of the hips is a procedure that is generally very well tolerated. The treated area may be red, with slight swelling and bruising, but these will disappear within a few days.

During the first 3 days, some residual tumescent solution may seep from the injection sites; this is normal. You may shower after 24 hours; you should continue to wear compression garments for 2–6 weeks, though these may be removed for personal hygiene purposes.

We recommend rest for 7 days; avoid saunas, solariums, swimming pools and strenuous physical activity for approximately one month following the procedure.

To prevent the formation of lumps in the treated area, we recommend a gentle massage for about 30 minutes a day – we will teach you the correct technique. Adherence to post-operative instructions affects the quality of the result.

The first check-up takes place one week after the procedure, with further check-ups as required. Results are visible after 14 days, with the final effect evident after 2 months. Our doctors are available to you throughout your recovery should you need advice or assistance.

FAQ

Frequently Asked
Questions

Below you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about liposuction of the hips.

What methods of hip liposuction do you offer?

We specialise in tumescent liposuction, combined with laser or vibration technology, to ensure the procedure is as gentle and effective as possible.

What does the pre-operative examination and preparation involve?

Before the procedure, we will carry out a comprehensive examination, including a medical history and laboratory tests. We recommend that you stop taking any blood-thinning medication at least 14 days before the procedure.

What are the possible complications and risks associated with the procedure?

Complications are rare. Temporary swelling, bruising, tenderness or slight unevenness may occur, but these usually subside within a few weeks without any further treatment.

Are there any contraindications for the procedure?

The procedure is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, or for people with cardiovascular conditions, blood clotting disorders or active infections.

The procedure is not a substitute for weight loss; it merely contours areas where fat tends to accumulate – it is therefore important to have realistic expectations.

Can the procedure be combined with other areas (e.g. the abdomen, thighs)?

Yes, liposuction of the hips can be combined with a tummy tuck and the removal of excess skin to achieve a comprehensive body contouring procedure and harmonious overall results.

Alternatively, the procedure can be carried out in combination with liposuction of the abdomen, thighs, arms or other areas, which is effective both in terms of saving time and achieving the best overall results.
