About the procedure

When to consider nipple surgery

Nipple surgery is most commonly undertaken due to dissatisfaction with their appearance – nipples may be larger or smaller than their owners would like, or there may be a discrepancy in size.

The most common reasons why clients consider nipple surgery:

  • Large nipples – these can impair quality of life as they are overly sensitive and may cause discomfort or even pain when wearing clothing.
  • Inverted nipples – surgery to correct inverted nipples without severing the milk ducts can also help ensure successful breastfeeding.
  • Nipple surgery for men – men may also suffer because their nipples do not match the proportions of their body.

Inverted nipples can be corrected with or without severing the milk ducts – leaving the ducts intact preserves the possibility of future breastfeeding.

Why choose us for nipple surgery?

Although nipple reduction, nipple augmentation and nipple reconstruction are among the less complex procedures, it is always advisable to take care when choosing a high-quality plastic surgery clinic to carry out the procedure.

Our doctors are certified specialists in plastic surgery, with many years’ experience both in the Czech Republic and abroad, and thanks to our extensive team, we are able to offer a wide range of specialist services – whether you are considering nipple augmentation or a full breast reconstruction. We devote ample time to consultations to ensure we meet your expectations as closely as possible, and we continue to care for our patients after the procedure – we invite them for dressing changes and post-operative check-ups.

How the procedure is carried out

The procedure for nipple reconstruction is similar to all the other surgical procedures we carry out at the clinic.

It all begins with a thorough consultation with a doctor, during which we discuss your wishes and the options for achieving them – as it is not always possible to fulfil every request, for example due to the patient’s state of health or individual circumstances.

A date is then arranged for the procedure itself. This can be carried out under either local or general anaesthesia – it depends on the exact type of procedure involved (an example is surgery for inverted nipples).

Depending on the type of procedure, the operation will then be carried out under local or general anaesthesia. In the case of general anaesthesia, you will need to stay at the clinic overnight for observation. Areola reconstruction is also frequently requested, and this can likewise be carried out under local anaesthesia.

If local anaesthesia is used, you will be able to go home the same day. However, it also depends on whether the patient wishes to have the milk ducts severed or not – if she chooses to have them severed, the procedure is very quick, taking around half an hour, and does not require a lengthy recovery period.

Many women have the procedure carried out in conjunction with postnatal breast reshaping, as pregnancy and subsequent breastfeeding alter the shape of the breasts. In that case, it is a more complex operation which must be performed under general anaesthesia, and you will therefore spend one night with us for observation.

The cost of nipple reconstruction

The final price depends on the type and extent of the procedure. Indicative price list:

  • Inverted nipples – 12,500 CZK
  • Areola reduction under local anaesthesia – 17,500 CZK
  • Initial consultation with a plastic surgeon – 500 Kč
  • Online consultation with a plastic surgeon – 500 Kč

We will provide you with an exact price during a face-to-face or online consultation, depending on the procedure you choose.

Recovery after the procedure

It depends very much on the type of procedure. For simpler procedures carried out under local anaesthetic, the recovery time is usually shorter.

In the case of local anaesthesia, for example for surgery to correct inverted nipples involving the severing of milk ducts, it is possible to return to work as early as the following day – however, the patient should avoid any sport or physical exertion for the following 14 days. For areola reduction, a period of 3 weeks without physical activity is required.

Your treating doctor will always provide you with detailed information about all risks and post-operative care. You will also be invited to our clinic for dressing changes and check-ups, so that we can ensure everything is healing as it should.

Frequently Asked
Questions

When should I consider nipple surgery?

The most common reason is dissatisfaction with the size or shape of the nipples – whether they are too large and uncomfortable, inverted, or require reconstruction or correction of asymmetry. We also carry out nipple surgery for men.

Is nipple reconstruction surgery painful?

The procedure is carried out under local or general anaesthetic, so you will not feel any pain during the operation. Recovery following a procedure under local anaesthetic is usually only slightly uncomfortable.

How long does it take for the results of the operation to become visible?

The results are visible immediately after the operation. However, the wounds must be allowed to heal properly, and you must follow the recommended post-operative care instructions and rest.

Will the procedure affect my ability to breastfeed in the future?

If you are planning to start a family and wish to breastfeed, please inform your doctor in advance. Correction of inverted nipples without severing the milk ducts does not prevent breastfeeding; however, in procedures where the milk ducts are severed, breastfeeding is not recommended.

Is nipple reconstruction surgery painful?

The procedure is always carried out under either local or general anaesthesia, so you will not feel any pain during the procedure. We use digital anaesthesia dosing, which allows us to keep everything firmly under control. The procedure under local anaesthesia is generally very well tolerated by patients, and pain during recovery is usually minimal.
