How to treat oily hair? We know their causes and solutions.
Are you troubled by limp hair that you have to wash almost every day? You are definitely not alone in this. A quarter of the adult population struggles with this problem. In this post, we will reveal how to deal with greasy hair, uncovering its causes and possible solutions.
We will help you resolve issues with your hair and scalp – from professional analysis to hair transplantation. The cost
of individual procedures, their course, and possible outcomes will be gladly discussed with you during a non-binding consultation.
How to deal with oily hair? First, identify the cause.
The fact that your body produces excessive amounts of sebum may be caused by genetic predispositions. If so, you are troubled by greasy, flat hair all year round, and it is not just a temporary issue.
If this is not the case, it is necessary to look for the cause elsewhere. In addition to genetics, important factors include:
- stress
- unhealthy diet
- hormonal changes (especially puberty, pregnancy)
- discontinuation of hormonal contraception
- frequent wearing of head coverings
- inappropriate hair care products
- too frequent brushing and touching your hair
- frequent blow-drying
What to avoid when you have oily hair
Similar to oily skin, excessive production of sebum is a compensation for too much dryness and rough handling. Therefore, try to adjust your lifestyle and the way you take care of your hair.
- Avoid blow-drying with hot air and frequent combing of your hair with your fingers.
- Limit the consumption of unhealthy food, and avoid fatty, extremely sweet, salty, and spicy dishes.
- Rest and regular hydration are important. Adequate hydration reflects not only on radiant skin but also on beautiful, healthy hair.
What works for oily hair? Review your hair care routine.
Oily hair should be washed more frequently; however, it is extremely important to do it correctly.
- The process begins with selecting the right shampoo. It should be suitable for frequent use and ideally natural, free from silicones and other potentially irritating substances.
- As for the amount, just one teaspoon is enough when washing.
- After lathering, rinse with lukewarm water, never hot.
- Finally, you can rinse your hair with cold water – this will close the pores on the scalp.

Are conditioners and styling products suitable for oily hair?
In the case of quickly oily hair, the rule “less is more” applies. However, conditioners do not have to be prohibited. If you use one, apply it only to the lengths of the hair, not to the roots. As for styling products, limit them to a minimum. Remember that you should apply a maximum of 2 hair products to your hair daily.
What helps with oily hair? Quick relief in the form of dry shampoos.
They are truly a great helper for anyone struggling with oily hair. As we mentioned, frequent washing is not the most suitable option. Applying dry shampoo can delay washing by a day or two. It is very practical, works instantly, and can save you both while traveling and during busy mornings.
Try out folk remedies. They really work for oily hair.
Herbs and certain types of foods can help with quickly oily hair. Here are some of them:
- Nettle
Many hairstylists recommend using nettle shampoo, although not for the long term. At home, you can prepare an infusion from the young parts of this plant and rinse your hair with it.
- Kefir
Instead of hair masks, use plain kefir. Massage it into damp strands, leave it on for 30 minutes, and then rinse it out.
- Burdock
Prepare an infusion from its root, which you leave on your hair and scalp for about 15 minutes. It soothes and nourishes the scalp while improving hair quality.
- Sorrel
Prepare sorrel hair water by adding two handfuls of its leaves to a liter of boiling water and letting it steep under a lid at a lower temperature for 15 minutes. Rinse your hair with the infusion and do not rinse it out with water afterwards.
Thinning hair, receding hairline, or bald spots on the crown of the head – we can address all of this at our clinic.
