Removal of Sweating by Laser

Today, removal of sweating can be performed effectively and permanently through laser treatment. Excessive sweating causes problems for a large number of patients, not only complicating their private lives, but also their working lives. Sweating is a natural bodily function that’s necessary for regulation of the body temperature. However, if it exceeds the normal limit and the sweat gland activity is increased, it’s a very unpleasant phenomenon, which can be solved once and for all with laser treatment, depending on an individual.

Most excessive sweating involves palms, soles of the feet, armpits, groins and hair, etc. The causes of excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis vary – genetic predispositions, hormonal changes, thyroid gland problems, excess weight, diabetes, poor regimen, depression and physical stress.

Effective laser

Annoying excessive sweating in the armpits – axillary hyperhidrosis not only results in reduced self-confidence, but also in constant self-control, discontent and is a major obstacle to the quality of life. Professional removal of sweating with the use of a laser is an elegant, very effective and safe solution – By selective thermal effects of laser beams, the excretory (sweat) glands are destroyed and there is a persistent reduction in sweating. Removal of sweating using the SECRET Microneedle Radiofrequency can be used as an alternative method and with effects similar to laser treatment. Another alternative (especially in the area of the arms/legs is the treatment with botulinum toxin.

Detailed information regarding the procedure

Removal of sweating by laser can only be applied in the armpits, but it’s permanent. It’s a mini-invasive, day-care procedure under local anaesthesia. The principle of the treatment using selective laser energy lies in the destruction of the sweat gland in the designated area and therefore, preventing sweating. After the procedure, the patient returns to their normal working and personal life after a few days. You don’t need to worry about relocating or increasing sweating on other areas of the body as activity of the remaining sweat glands is evenly distributed over the surface of the entire body.

The procedure takes approximately one-hour and can be performed at any time during the day, it utilises a cutting-edge German diode laser with a wavelength of 980 nm, with a huge absorption capacity in fat cells. The resulting effect after removing excessive sweating by laser occurs within 2 days to a week, with a lasting effect (depending on patient individuality). This procedure is recommended for women and men from the age of 18.

Procedure Benefits

Unlike removing sweating with botulinum toxin, which has to be repeated after several months, removal by laser has a great advantage in the procedure durability.

  • A mini-invasive day-care gentle method
  • No general anaesthesia – painless treatment under the local anaesthesia
  • Effective and elegant method with permanent results
  • Minimum convalescence
  • Regulation of sweat glands in the armpits without restriction of thermoregulation at other areas of the body
  • It can be done at any time of the year

Course of Treatment

Under local anaesthesia, anaesthetic-containing a tumescence solution is applied to the treated area, in particular the armpit and, after about 30 minutes action, a laser fibre is inserted into the treated area through miniature incisions. Using the laser beam’s thermal action, fat cells under the skin are heated, thickening the ligamentous sweat glands and reducing them. Any liquefied fat, including the residual solution is then sucked out using a cannula. The treated area is subsequently disinfected and covered with gauze, which must be kept on for at least 24 hours. After the treatment, the patient can go home.

Before the Procedure

The appropriateness of removal of sweating by laser should be assessed and decided by your attending physician.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Inflammatory diseases, skin infections or antibiotic treatment
  • Tumour diseases
  • Blood clotting disorders
  • Diabetes
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Cardiac disease

It’s important to always tell your doctor about your health problems and any medication you’re taking in order to avoid unnecessary subsequent health problems.

After the Procedure

The removal of sweating by laser has a positive effect on the reduced to absolute limitation of the sweat gland activation in more than 93% of patients. Short-term convalescence takes approximately 2–3 days, then it’s possible to return to your private and working life. In rare instances when some sweat glands remain active (which can be determined by an iodine test that stains the active sweat glands with purple shade), the procedure will be repeated in on a given area after several months.

After the procedure, swellings, bruising or redness may occur on the treatment site, this should disappear in a few days. The procedure is tolerated without difficulty, however, some more sensitive patients may feel burning, so we recommend cooling the treated site. After completing the removal of sweating by laser, it’s desirable to avoid the visiting a sauna, solarium or swimming pool for at least 7 days and a physical load and the absence of sport is also recommended for at least a week

If necessary, compressive underwear should be used for approximately 7 days, it can be remove during personal hygiene.

Sweating is a natural bodily function and is healthy in its right way. However, if excessive sweating causes problems in your daily life and you are ashamed of your disability, don’t hesitate and simply get rid of it with the help of a modern laser and in addition, it’s almost always permanent!
