Surface
The surface of breast implants can be smooth or textured. Smooth surfaces have a higher risk of capsular contracture. With a textured surface, the implant is secured in its original position. The most optimal choice is implants with a micro-textured surface (which adheres to the breast tissue).
What shape do breast implants have?
- Round breast implants have long been one of the most popular options. Thanks to this shape, they create a so-called “push-up” effect in the upper half of the breasts. Their base is round. The breasts appear natural when all factors are considered (the patient’s body structure, etc.). Conversely, excessive size of the round shape on a slim figure can create the effect of artificial breasts.
- Anatomical breast implants are the ideal choice for women with mildly sagging breasts that do not require reshaping. Doctors also choose them for patients with completely flat breasts. They have an oval base and are therefore fuller at the bottom. This makes them look very natural, as they more accurately mimic the shape of real breasts.
- Teardrop breast implants represent a compromise between round and anatomical shapes. They have a round base but are fuller at the bottom, similar to the anatomical shape. “Teardrops” can also create a slight push-up effect in the upper part of the breasts. Doctors most commonly recommend them to women with slight sagging, where reshaping is not necessary, and to clients with a narrow chest and no base. Breast Implants - Sizes
Bra sizes are commonly designated by the letters A, B, C, D, and so on. The size or volume of the implants is indicated in milliliters (ml). Specifically, 150 ml represents roughly one bra size.
For a better understanding, we will provide an example from practice: A woman who previously wore cup size A is recommended by a surgeon to undergo augmentation with 300 ml implants. This will increase her breast size by two cup sizes. She will therefore wear a bra with cup size C.
In some cases, the surgeon may opt for a slightly larger size than originally intended. There is no need to worry, as an additional 50 ml is not a drastic difference, but it is enough to enhance the aesthetic outcome.
The chosen shape and profile also affect the new bra size.
The profile refers to the height of the implant. It can be low, medium, high, or extremely high. By choosing the appropriate profile, the surgeon can achieve a fuller décolleté. For example, if you want to slightly increase your breasts but also achieve the effect of a full décolleté, a small volume with a high profile will be recommended to you.

How long do breast implants last?
Modern technology increases safety and durability; however, breast implants are not designed to last a lifetime. Each woman has a different body structure and skin type. She also has a different lifestyle. Therefore, the interval for replacement is influenced by a number of external and internal factors. Generally, however, it is recommended to undergo reoperation after 10 to 16 years.
The doctor must check the condition of the silicone (an ultrasound examination will be performed). If the implant is in good condition and the patient is satisfied with the current state and has no complaints, the replacement may be postponed.
When to undergo breast augmentation after childbirth?
Young mothers are often unhappy with the state of their breasts after pregnancy and during breastfeeding. Significant weight gain and loss in a short period can negatively affect the appearance of the breasts. They are most often sagging and lacking in volume.
Breast augmentation after childbirth is recommended to be postponed until you finish breastfeeding (6 to 12 months).
