How to care for curly hair? Make sure you understand its characteristics.
Curly hair doesn’t lie flat against the scalp, doesn’t get as greasy and tends to be drier. You should therefore avoid anything that might dry it out further and contribute to breakage – from using unsuitable hair products to incorrect drying and styling techniques. Hydration and nourishment are the foundations on which you can start building.
Types of curly hair
Curly hair can take many different forms. The degree of curl is determined by the shape of the hair follicle. The flatter and more oval-shaped it is, the curlier the hair. Based on the diameter of the waves or ringlets, we can therefore divide it into three basic categories.
- Waves
- Curls
- Afro
Do you long for beautiful, healthy hair, but are troubled by excessive hair loss? Contact our specialists. During a trichological examination, we’ll try to identify the causes of your problems – or help you forget all about them with a hair extension treatment.
CARE FOR CURLY HAIR
Your biggest enemy is frizz. You can prevent this with sufficient hydration and by choosing the right hair care products
1. Washing and choosing a shampoo for curly hair
You should always choose products specifically designed for wavy and curly hair. We recommend natural shampoos free from silicones, which weigh down the hair and, in the long term, increase the risk of breakage.
Don’t use too much shampoo – a quantity the size of 1–2 hazelnuts is sufficient. Don’t forget to apply conditioner either. We also recommend treating yourself to a moisturising mask at least once every two weeks.
2. Drying and blow-drying wavy hair
Avoid rubbing your hair vigorously with a towel – this could damage it. If time allows, let it air-dry.
When blow-drying, set the temperature and heat intensity to the lowest possible setting. Before you start drying your hair, comb it through with a wide-toothed comb, or simply run your fingers through it. Blow-dry your hair using a diffuser, which will help define the waves.
3. The best products for curly hair
Hair oils can be a great help when styling your hair. Among the most popular are argan, jojoba and coconut oils. These will leave your hair beautifully moisturised, more resistant to external influences and with an attractive shine. To enhance the beauty of your curls, you can also use special sprays, waxes or creams.
HAIRSTYLES FOR CURLY HAIR
Caring for curly and wavy locks can be made much easier with a well-chosen haircut. Above all, it should be light and airy. It’s a good idea to have your hair layered to bring out its wavy texture and make it feel lighter. As each curl has its own shape, it’s best to cut the hair strand by strand whilst it is dry.
HOW TO GET WAVY HAIR IF NATURE HASN’T GIVEN IT TO YOU
Does your hair have waves, but not enough, or not quite the way you’d like? That’s nothing a good curling iron can’t handle. Make sure it has a ceramic coating so it doesn’t put unnecessary strain on your hair. Before you start curling, don’t forget to treat your hair with heat-protectant products.
Another very simple and popular method is to create soft waves using plaits. Simply plait your hair overnight.
When it comes to hair problems, women often opt for permanent eyebrow make-up. Unfortunately, however, the results do not always turn out as hoped, and it becomes necessary to have the eyebrow tattoo removed. Our clinic can help with this too.
