Chin plastic surgery focuses on addressing disproportionate asymmetry and imbalance in this area. These discrepancies create an inappropriate and disproportionate appearance when viewing the face, and this procedure can help achieve a harmonious shape.

Chin plastic surgery focuses on disproportionate solutions for asymmetry and imbalance in this area. These are deviations that appear inappropriate and disproportionate when looking at the face, and through this adjustment, a harmonious shape can be achieved. It is considered normal when the bridge of the nose, the upper lip, and the chin protrusion form an imaginary common line. However, the shape and size of the chin are not only composed of the lower projection with the jawbone but also include soft tissues, which need to be assessed for quality, as they may lose elasticity over time.
Chin plastic surgery allows for effective reduction, enlargement, or repositioning of the jaw with or without the use of an implant, ensuring that the proportions relative to other parts of the face are preserved as best as possible.
Chin plastic surgery is suitable for everyone who has completed their growth and for those who are dissatisfied with their appearance. Anomalies that are indicated for the procedure include a receding chin, an overbite, characterized by an enlarged upper jaw, a rotated bite with an excessive lower jaw, and a large gap between the bite (in this case, it is preferable to first correct the bite and only then surgically realign the chin). Often, chin plastic surgery is chosen for psychological reasons to enhance self-esteem.

The chin plastic surgery is performed under general anesthesia and requires postoperative hospitalization lasting approximately 2 days. The chin reduction surgery is conducted through an incision from the inner area of the lower lip. By displacing the soft tissues, the chin prominence is exposed, and the protruding part is removed with a dental drill; subsequently, the chin is remodeled. The wound is closed with absorbable sutures. If the surgery involves an asymmetrical chin, the procedure is the same, except the chin prominence is shaped into the desired symmetrical form, and the incision is sutured. In cases of significant asymmetry, a portion of the chin must be removed, the loosened bone is repositioned, and reshaped with a bone drill. The wound is sutured and secured with a compression bandage for about 5 days.
Chin plastic surgery requiring augmentation is performed using an implant or by shifting the patient’s own bone. The procedure is carried out through an incision beneath the inner part of the lip, where a suitable implant (we use an implant that possesses invaluable properties – it integrates into the surrounding bone and gradually replenishes bone tissue) is secured to the bone with titanium screws to prevent displacement, and the wound is closed with absorbable sutures. An advantage is that the implant can be shaped as needed.
In the case of shifting the patient’s own bone, an incision is made on the lower mucosa in the mouth, the soft tissues are lifted, and a portion of the chin is cut away. The loosened part is then repositioned into the desired shape, secured with a small titanium plate and screws, and fixed with a compression bandage.

Chin surgery is considered an invasive aesthetic surgical procedure, assuming a healthy patient. Prior to the procedure, it is necessary to discontinue blood-thinning medications and medications that increase bleeding for approximately 14 days. Additionally, the patient should not be burdened with any viral or inflammatory diseases. Chin surgery is not suitable during pregnancy.
After the chin plastic surgery procedure, the treated areas may exhibit greater pain or swelling, which can be alleviated with standard pain medication and cold compresses. Swelling typically subsides in about 14 days; however, in cases of mandibular bone displacement or changes in the angle of the lower jaw, swelling may persist somewhat longer. Chin plastic surgery requires approximately 1–3 days of hospitalization, followed by necessary home postoperative care, which involves resting, a soft diet for about a week, until the wounds heal. It is also advisable to enhance oral hygiene by rinsing the mouth with sage, mint, or chamomile. When correcting chin asymmetry, bandage fixation is required for about 7 days; if non-absorbable material was used for the stitches, the removal of stitches occurs approximately 10 days later.
Chin plastic surgery necessitates a reduction in physical activity for 2–4 weeks, after which the patient can return to their normal work and personal routine. After the procedure, it is important to avoid any impacts to the lower jaw.
A person’s face holds significant importance on the body – it shapes our character, visual aspect, and how we present ourselves to those around us. Often, our appearance is determined by genetic proportions, but it is always possible to either accept what nature has given us or, with the help of cutting-edge aesthetic medical techniques, achieve an ideal and natural look to enhance self-confidence and self-perception.
