The treatment of lipedema is a multidisciplinary issue that encompasses vascular surgery, lymphology, and phlebology. Before any procedure and treatment for lipedema, it is necessary to determine the patient’s condition using diagnostic methods and choose the treatment accordingly. Thanks to the complexity of our facility, we can help clients with lipedema issues and ensure precise and effective treatment.
The examination for lipedema at our clinic includes an initial consultation and, if necessary, ultrasound diagnostics. Based on the first examination, the attending physician will determine whether the client suffers from lipedema, whether venous insufficiency (chronic venous insufficiency) is present, and will propose a possible treatment plan. As a supplementary examination, a consultation with the clinic’s lymphologist can be performed.
The initial consultation lasts approximately 30 minutes, and the cost of this examination, including ultrasound diagnostics, is 1,800 CZK.
If venous insufficiency is present, the vascular surgeon will perform therapy for venous insufficiency before the actual treatment of lipedema. Without resolving this issue, the treatment of lipedema would be ineffective and risky. We perform venous procedures at our clinic using laser ablation or vein glue under local anesthesia – this is approximately a 60-minute procedure.
Lipedema, also known as the “fat leg syndrome,” is characterized by excessive pathological accumulation of fat, primarily in the areas of the lower limbs and arms. Lipedema is a chronic progressive disease that exclusively affects women, with a prevalence of 9 to 15% of the adult female population. It is often mistakenly confused with lymphatic or venous edema and obesity. Unfortunately, lipedema is not just an aesthetic problem; it also causes pain, sensitivity to touch, the occurrence of spontaneous bruising (hematomas), and in advanced stages, walking difficulties. The cause of lipedema is still unknown, but hormonal changes in the patient are considered to play a significant role. It often begins to appear during puberty and gradually worsens. Unfortunately, lipedema cannot be eliminated through diets, exercise, etc.

Our healthcare facility has a water jet-based device for the treatment of lipedema. This device is used by the lipedema specialist – Dr. Offermann, who successfully treats hundreds of patients annually in Germany with this device. It is a gentle technique that separates problematic fat from surrounding tissues using a water jet and subsequently aspirates it. In one session, a maximum of one area (thighs, calves, or arms) can be treated. If treatment of multiple areas is necessary, it is advisable to repeat the procedure.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. After the procedure, it is necessary to stay at our clinic for one night, and it is required to wear special compression garments.
The treatment we use can also be supplemented with additional treatments: wearing compression garments, dietary adjustments, and regular therapeutic lymphatic drainage.
