This is an invasive procedure that is performed either on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia, when one area is treated, or in the case of larger areas (multiple regions), the procedure is conducted under general anesthesia or analgesosedation. The main purpose of the method is to infuse the treated area with a special tumescent solution that has the ability to dissolve subcutaneous fat cells, or to inflate and fragment them, so that the excess fat can subsequently be suctioned out using specialized liposuction cannulas connected to a suction device (at our clinic, we use a state-of-the-art Swiss liposuction device). However, a consultation with a physician is always important for adaptability to the procedure. The time requirement is 2-3 hours depending on the size of the treated area. Tumescent liposuction can be complemented on the day of the procedure with so-called vibrational liposuction, which further accelerates fat suction and reduces unevenness, or SlimLipo laser liposuction, which can be used in the final phase and which perfectly smooths out any irregularities that may arise.

The advantage of tumescent liposuction compared to classical, so-called dry liposuction without the use of tumescent solution, is primarily the reduction of postoperative hospitalization and prolonged recovery, minimal strain on the body, prevention of the formation of irregularities on the body, or cell damage. Tumescent liposuction can be effectively combined with so-called laser liposuction, which is performed at our clinic using a German liposuction laser with a wavelength of 980 nm. Laser liposuction in combination with vibration liposuction enhances the effectiveness of the procedure, tightens the subcutaneous tissue after liposuction, and further eliminates any potential unevenness.
The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia (or general anesthesia/analgesosedation). A tumescent solution containing a substance that constricts blood vessels and thereby reduces bleeding, along with an anesthetic that aids in numbing, is injected into predetermined problematic areas of the body. Double the amount of solution is applied beneath the skin compared to the amount of fat that will be aspirated. Approximately 30 minutes is reserved for the activation of these substances. Then, using specialized liposuction cannulas that are applied under the skin through small incisions of 2–4 mm, adipose tissue is aspirated.

If you decide to undergo the procedure, a consultation with the treating physician is necessary, who will suggest the optimal solution so that the outcome is as least burdensome for you as possible and yields the best results.
Only healthy patients are permitted to undergo the procedure! However, treatment may not always be feasible, so attention must be paid if:
– You are experiencing inflammation, infection, or have been ill with a viral disease within the last 14 days
– You are being treated for a tumor disease
– You are undergoing treatment for epilepsy
– You suffer from high blood pressure
– You are experiencing a high-risk pregnancy
– You have a bleeding disorder
It is advisable to discontinue blood-thinning medications at least 14 days before the procedure, if your physician permits it. Also, discontinue medications containing acetylsalicylic acid. Inform the physician of all health issues and all medications you are taking to avoid unnecessary subsequent problems.
The procedure is generally well tolerated; the treated areas may be reddened, and swelling, bruising may occur at the injection sites, which will resolve within a few days. Hospitalization is not necessary in the case of outpatient treatment with local anesthesia, and reintegration into regular life is almost immediate; however, we recommend at least 3 days of lighter activities. After anesthesia, a 1-day hospitalization is always required, followed by a week of limited work incapacity. A month of convalescence is typically observed, during which special elastic garments must be worn, even at night. Adherence to hydration guidelines is a matter of course!
Important to know – the quality, elasticity, and skin contraction all contribute to a good outcome. After fat aspiration, the subcutaneous area is loosened, and since skin elasticity decreases with aging, it may exhibit unattractive protruding skin areas.
The final result is visible after 14 days, although for some, it may take up to 2 months.
